FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has denied a Cumberland County citizen's group's request to put Fayetteville's new annexation on hold.

Fayetteville plans to go through with its biggest expansion ever. More than 40,000 residents will join the city Friday.

Opponents mailed a letter to Justice Clarence Thomas asking him to step in, but he has denied the request.
