Sophomore Stephanie Burgos, 16, died Thursday after an sport utility vehicle hit her as she crossed a road near the school. On Saturday, another sophomore, 16-year-old Skylar Wingate, died in a car accident in Jackson County. That wreck also killed a 2-year-old.
"Stephanie was a loud and outgoing person who liked to dance around and make people smile," said student Racheal McCoy. "I'm going to miss having somebody to talk to, and Skylar was there to make somebody laugh and I'm really going to miss that."
Principal James Key said the whole school is feeling the pain.
"Riverside is a family and we know these two families are hurting and our students are hurting," Key said.
Counselors and psychiatrists have been at the school to help students deal with their grief.
