Durham Police Offer 'No Bail, No Jail' For Some Offenders
Posted September 18, 2005
DURHAM, N.C. — It was a "get-out-of-jail-free card" in Durham -- well, sort of.
For the first time, Durham County authorities allowed people with outstanding warrants to turn themselves in this weekend without having to post bond or go to jail.
There were a couple of exceptions, however. The offer only applied to people with misdemeanor charges, and even then, not every suspect qualified.
The suspect was released under a promise to appear in court. The "no-bail, no-jail" offer ends Sunday.
