Car Accident Shuts Down Part Of I-40 Near Clayton

— A car accident shut down part of westbound I-40 in Johnston County Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 4 p.m. near Clayton when a car veered off the side of I-40, flipped, and landed in the emergency lanes.

Two people in the car were injured, troopers said, and traffic was backed up for at least four miles.

The conditions and identities of the passengers have not been released, and investigators have not reported the cause of the accident.
