Police said the boy was walking across
South Alston Avenue near Nixon Street
to wait for the school bus when he was struck by a car driven by Jason Lamont Cousins at about 8 a.m. Friday.
Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department, said the child was briefly unconscious and taken to Duke Hospital for treatment for leg injuries.
Police arrested Cousins, 24, who has been charged for driving while his license was revoked, driving without insurance, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Cousins was not injured, police said.
It's the second time in two days that a local child has been struck by a car while waiting for the school bus.
On Thursday morning, a car struck a 5-year-old boy who darted into the road while waiting for the school bus in Wayne County, police said.
Witnesses said the boy, Michael Buchanan, was hit by a car's side mirror after he darted into the road.
Buchanan was treated at an area hospital and has been released.
The driver of the car ran off the road, struck a brick wall and a fence, and landed in a ditch.
She sustained minor injuries.
The driver would not be charged in the accident, police said.
