WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A car struck a 5-year-old boy who darted into the road while waiting for the school bus in Wayne County on Thursday morning, police said.
Witnesses said the boy, Michael Buchanan, was hit by a car's side mirror after he darted into the road.
Buchanan was treated at an area hospital and has been released.
The driver of the car ran off the road, struck a brick wall and a fence, and landed in a ditch.
She sustained minor injuries.
She would not be charged in the accident, police said.
