22-Month-Old's Death Being Treated As Homicide

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are treating a 22-month-old's death on August 18 as an apparent homicide.

On the morning of August 18, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive child at an apartment on

Chalk Level Road

.

Police said they found Deshawn Williamson in the apartment, and he was not breathing. They took him to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"An initial examination showed no outward signs of trauma," Kammie Michael, spokeswoman with the Durham Police Department, said.

But, she said, an autopsy revealed that the child died as a result of blunt-force trauma.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
