Heat To Blame For Kenly Water Problems, Officials Say

Posted Updated

KENLY, N.C. — Kenly officials say the heat is to blame for high levels of bacteria that have appeared in the town's water supply.

The high levels of bacteria caused some restaurants and day care centers to even shut down and residents were under an order to boil water.

To prevent future water problems, Kenly officials said water pipes will be flushed on a regular basis and that higher levels of chlorine would be used during hot weather.

In early August, town residents were asked to boil water for three days when scientists found traces of coliform, a type of bacteria found in feces, in the water supply.
