Police Wait on Autopsy in Infant's Death
Warsaw, N.C. — Warsaw authorities are investigating the death of an infant found dead at a vacant residence Tuesday.
Investigators said the male child was found wrapped in a blanket shortly before 1 p.m. at 513 E. Chelly St. Two people scouting real estate found the body on the back steps, police said.
"I've investigated a number of deaths, and it does bother you," said Warsaw Police Capt. Jerry Wood, a 14-year veteran. He said he has never seen a case like the one discovered Tuesday.
The boy's body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Jacksonville, and an autopsy is pending.
Police said no one is known to have lived in the house since September.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Warsaw Police Department at 910-293-7816
