Fire Truck Damaged in Joy Ride

e-mail print friendly
A Seven Springs man was arrested Tuesday and charged with taking two fire trucks for joy rides and damaging one, authorities said.

Shelton Douglas Southerland Jr., 29, of 541 Billy Price Road, is charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, injury to personal property and misdemeanor larceny.

Last Friday, the Pricetown Fire Department reported that someone had taken two fire trucks from its fire station, drove the trucks and then returned them, authorities said.

One of the trucks sustained $2,500 in damage, and tools worth an estimated $650 were stolen from one truck, authorities said.

The case remains under investigation, and more arrests are pending, authorities said.

What a smuck!

HE SHOULD PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS,AND WASH AND WAX THEM TOO!!!!!

Thrasher3 is correct and the same holds true for most Fire vehicles depending on what they are. Many pickup style vehicles do not depending on how the auxiallry electrical system is setup.

I used to be a volunteer firefighter and was always finding the door left unlocked. We finally went to a coded door lock.

Let's all be happy nobody needed these trucks while they were out on the joy run.

Most smaller fire departments are staffed by volunteers (aka. people with full-time jobs that rotate days on-call for the department to keep staffing) as far as the ignition... I drove an ambulance and there is usually a power switch that has to be cut on before starting so it sounds like someone who knows what they were doing to me......
