Authorities are searching for a Siler City man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his uncle.

Chatham County sheriff’s officials said Donald Louis Scotton, 53, of 175 Fletcher Siler Road, was shot to death around 8 p.m. Saturday at the residence of his nephew, Christopher Matthews, 35.

Witnesses told investigators that Scotton and Matthews had a verbal altercation that escalated and led to the shootings. Deputies said they believe Matthews may have been stabbed at some point during the scuffle.

Matthews ran into a wooded area near the home after the shooting, witnesses told investigators. Search dogs tracked him to nearby residences, but he had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

Investigators found shell casings and several knives at Matthews’ home, but didn’t find a gun. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the altercation, investigators said.

Matthews is believed to still be in the Siler City area, authorities said. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department at 919-542-2811.

It is time to build more jails! People just don't give a second thought about killing someone today. Seems as if we have lost the value of life. People just have so much anger within in themselves and it needs to stop.

hahaha! You want the comment section gone, but you're commenting??? hrattel-next time you find yourself typing a comment against your will please take your keyboard off of CAPS-LOCK! Thanks.

hrattel - "I HOPE WRAL SOON TAKES THIS COMMENT SECTION OFFLINE" Then I don't understand why you're reading and posting here? You can always just read the story without moving on to the comment section? Praying. God bless. Rev. RB

mypuckytaz - You don't know that, and to make conjectures like this of a man who is now dead, is shameful and unintelligent. We should, instead, be praying for the loved ones of both of these men, and we should be praying for those inflicted with alcohol abuse. Praying for compassion and intelligence. God bless. Rev. RB

It's funny people want wral to end the comment sections,BUT,those very same whinners are the one's still reading and posting...go figure!
