Opening Statements Begin In Trial Of Wife Accused Of Killing Army Husband

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Opening statements began Monday in the trial of a woman accused of killing her husband.

Prosecutors believe Joan Shannon wanted to cash in on insurance money and talked her daughter Elizabeth into killing her husband, Army Maj. David Shannon.

Elizabeth Shannon pleaded guilty to charges she shot her stepfather. She received a 25-year sentence.
