Autopsy Findings Differ From Police In Durham Shooting

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Police reports from an officer shooting last month differ from autopsy findings.

Arvie Lee Fudge III, 25, of Salisbury, was shot and killed by Officer R. K. Jones in the parking lot of

Morreene West Apartments

in the early morning hours of July 8 after police were called to the scene on a report of trespassing.

Durham police said Jones shot Fudge while he was sitting in his car during a standoff that occurred, but the autopsy report said Fudge was shot at close range while standing outside his car. It also says he was holding a hostage at the time.

The police department said the autopsy report was done before its investigation was complete, but stands by its original findings.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
