Clay Aiken In Cary For Summer Tour Stop

CARY, N.C. — Raleigh native and American Idol runner-up

Clay Aiken

was scheduled to take the stage in Cary Friday night.

    About 7,000 fans from across the country, including Texas, New York, Illinois and Wisconsin were expected to see Aiken perform at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre.

    Fans lined up as early as 10 a.m. Friday. One group of 25 -- from across the United States and Canada, who had been communicating via the Internet, was among the fans.

    On Friday morning, Cary Mayor Ernie McAlister declared the day "Clay Aiken Day" during a breakfast meeting with fans, who call themselves, "Claymates."

    McAlister called Friday's concert a "big event" for Cary.
