On Monday, the health department found potentially harmful bacteria in Kenly's water supply. As a result, a boil water order is in effect for drinking water.
All of the town's restaurants and day cares are closed until further notice. Some businesses say the water problems are costing them money.
"This is our last, big revenue generator for the summer and it's being destroyed," said restaurant owner Dale Moore. "It's probably no one's fault. It's just something we have to deal with."
The town is flushing the system through fire hydrants and though officials do not know why it happened, it could be heat-related.
