Multi-Vehicle Accident Shuts Down Part Of Highway 64 Bypass Near Tarboro

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A multiple-vehicle accident temporarily shut down both lanes on westbound U.S. 64 Bypass in Edgecombe County Thursday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at mile marker 478 near the

Kingsboro Road exit

near Tarboro.

The accident involved six vehicles: two tractor-trailers, two passenger vehicles, a horse trailer and a commercial mower. The cab of one of the rigs caught fire.

Troopers still have not released information on injuries or what caused the accident.

Both lanes of the Highway 64 Bypass were shut down while crews handled the accident, but both lanes were reopened shortly after 5 p.m.

Westbound traffic had been detoured onto McNair Road.
