CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are looking into an assault that may have happened in a public park.
At about 6:45 a.m. Monday, a jogger running through Umstead Park on Umstead Drive found a woman near the picnic area who had been severely beaten.
Police say the woman, who is at UNC Hospitals, has extensive facial injuries, making it difficult for her to talk. Investigators were able to speak with her briefly Monday and plan to speak with her again Tuesday afternoon.
At this point, authorities say they do not know if she was assaulted at the park or somewhere else.
