RALEIGH, N.C. — An Apex woman who was hit in the head when a large rock crashed through her windshield has died, an official at Duke University Hospital told WRAL Friday afternoon.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Ana Larson was driving her minivan Wednesday night when the rock, which weighed about 5 pounds struck the van's windshield and hit her in the head.

Larson's van then crossed the center line on Highway 55 near Kit Creek Road and crashed.

Troopers do not know where the rock came from, but do not think anyone threw the rock on purpose.
