DMV Closes License Plate Agency

Posted Updated

ROBBINS, N.C. — A license plate agency is closed after agents with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles raided the office and shut it down.

Officials with the DMV said they found what they call "accounting regularities," but would not go into detail.

The office is run by an independent contractor, who is not under arrest. She was not available for comment.

Investigators said the office could reopen, but that the investigation is far from over.

Motorists who stopped by the license plate agency now see a handwritten sign saying "Office closed permanently."
