Pitt County Set To Launch New Emergency Notification System

RALEIGH, N.C. — People who live in Pitt County may get some unexpected but not unwanted phone calls.

The county is about to launch a telephone notification system that contacts people in an emergency.

The alert system serves much the same purpose as the emergency broadcast messages played over radio or television.

However, it functions even when people may be asleep or not watching TV.
