FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A famous Fort Bragg statue is on the move.
For years, "
Iron Mike
" sat outside Fort Bragg as a symbol of the Airborne Trooper. However, it is leaving its perch for some much-needed repairs.
"It's significant, it's historical, it's emotional, but for the soldiers, it's a reminder of what they do what they do," said military wife Lorna Ellis.
Crews plan to replace "Iron Mike" with a bronze replica. The old statue will be taken to Simmons Army Air Field where he will be refurbished. He will later be taken to Fayetteville's Airborne & Special Operations Museum.
The new bronze statue will be in Fort Bragg sometime in August.
