DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Police Department arrested Saturday night a man they believe scammed several people, including a bride-to-be, out of thousands of dollars.

Police found Beverly Perry, 53, hiding in a bedroom at his home on Linwood Avenue in Durham Saturday night.

Police said two people paid Perry thousands of dollars to arrange a Florida vacation that he never provided.

Perry also has been accused of scamming a bride-to-be out of about $2,500 for a wedding cruise.

Police said Perry was supposed to meet the bride and more than a dozen of her friends and family in May at a local shopping center to make the trip to Miami for the cruise. But, police said, Perry never showed up.

Perry is being held on $50,000 bond in the Durham County Jail.
