Jury Finds Woman Not Guilty In 2004 Robeson Fatal Accident

Posted Updated

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A jury has found a substitute teacher not guilty of charges that stemmed from a car wreck that killed a 6-year-old boy last fall.

Robeson County District Court Judge John Carter said the state failed to show beyond a reasonable doubt that Vearlene Harrell violated the law by not stopping for a school bus.

Harrell was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to stop for a school bus.

Police said she was on her way to Peterson Elementary School when she hit Miguel Posada as he crossed the highway to board the school bus in October.
