WENDELL, N.C. — Dive crews have recovered the body of a teen who went missing at a lake in Wendell Tuesday.

John Lee said his friend, 19-year-old Sean Brown, was supposed to meet him at a pool Monday but never turned up. Instead, Brown went swimming at a local quarry near Old Quarry Road with five of his friends.

"I guess everyone else was jumping in and he figured that he wanted to be part of the fun, and it didn't work out the same way," Lee said.

The teens jumped off a 15-foot cliff into the water below, but Brown did not resurface.

"After they came up, one of them was struggling. They made some attempts to try to help him, but they could not help him. He went down," said Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison.

Crews searched Monday night and Tuesday morning for Brown. They found his body at around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

There are "No Trespassing" signs on the private property and sheriff deputies said they have written a number of tickets to those who try to swim at the quarry.
