Tammy Lynn Center Seeks Additional Funding

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities needs $250,000 by Thursday if it wants to continue its early childhood intervention services.

Brittany Johnson's 2-year-old duaghter, Meg, suffered a brain injury. With the help of the center, she is crawling and communicating through sign language.

"She has surpassed every expectation that I have ever had for her," she said.

"We really try to give them some dignity and the ability to make choices because children with disabilities become adults with disabilities," said Steve Gruber, development director for the center.

Workers at the center say funding for programs is not keeping up with rising costs. In the past three weeks, people in the community donated $71,000 and county commissioners gave a $100,000 one-time grant.
