DURHAM, N.C. — The emergency department at Duke University's Hospital is getting some much-needed help. A $30 million expansion plan got under way earlier in the week.
When completed in 2007, the emergency department will have a larger triage area as well as bigger pediatric and adult emergency areas.
The facility was built to handle 30,000 to 35,000 patients a year.
In recent years, the number of people seeking treatment at the facility have doubled.
