WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest police officer will resign for accidentally shooting a 14-year-old girl.

Officer Kenneth Mangum was chasing a suspect in February when his gun went off. The bullet went through a door and hit the suspect's sister. She was not seriously hurt.

An investigation found Mangum violated the department's deadly force policies and decided to fire him.

Instead, Mangum offered to resign under certain conditions.

His offer is expected by the end of the week.
