DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Interstate 85, which shut down a portion of the southbound lanes.
A southbound tractor-trailer crashed into the back of a second southbound tractor-trailer at 10:34 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 85 south between the Duke Street and Guess Road exits.
One driver was pronounced dead and the other driver was not injured. Their identities have not been released.
Firefighters cleaned up a large fuel leak at the accident scene. Traffic on southbound Interstate 85 South was shut down for several hours.
Officials say it will take at least a week to finish the investigation.
