Wayne County Commissioner Will Not Attend Hawaii Convention

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A local county commissioner has canceled a controversial trip to a national convention in Hawaii.

Wayne County Commissioner John Bell announced Wednesday that he will not go to the convention, which will be held in Honolulu, next month.

Four other Wayne County employees still plan to attend.

Wayne is one of two North Carolina counties attending the conference after passing a tax increase.

Nearly 200 people from across the state are scheduled to attend the convention next month. Taxpayers will cover most of the trip's costs.
