Sarah Felicha Kersey, 24, was found dead by her daughter at a mobile home Wednesday near Broadway. Robert Wright, Kersey's brother, said his niece ran across the road to his house. He later rushed to Kersey's trailer.
When Wright got to the house, he said he smelled smoke, so he climbed through a window and found the stove on and Kersey's body on the floor.
"It's the hardest thing I ever had to deal with in my life," Wright said.
Initially, investigators did not consider Kersey's death suspicious. They said there were no signs of violence inside the home, but the autopsy report changed their minds.
Investigators will not go into detail, but Wright said evidence shows Kersey was strangled.
"Why would anybody have even a motive to come and do anything to my sister? She never did anything to nobody," Wright said.
Officers are not releasing any information about suspects and they will not explain why they believe the stove was left on. Kersey's brother thinks the killer was trying to start a fire to cover his or her tracks.
