Wake Commissioners Approve Funding For Mental Health Center

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County commissioners approved $10 million of funding for a mental health crisis in-patient facility.

Dozens of people turned out Monday night to express their concerns about what they call a looming mental health care crisis.

For years, the county has relied on Dorothea Dix hospital for patients with serious psychiatric needs, but the facility is closing in 2007. It will be replaced by a facility in Granville County.

Mental health advocates were hoping commissioners would put more up even more money than they did.

The county's amount would only cover a third of the cost of a new clinic.
