2 Teens Killed in Johnston County Wreck
Kenly, N.C. — Two teens died and another was injured in a weekend accident in Johnston County, authorities said.
The head-on collision happened on Johnston Parkway Road along Interstate 95 south of Kenly at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Investigators said a GMC truck driven by Nicholas Creech, 16, of Selma, was traveling south when it was hit by a Chevrolet driven by Reece Richardson, 17, of Kenly.
Both Creech and Richardson were killed in the accident. Travis Foster, 16, who was a passenger in Creech's truck, was listed in fair condition at WakeMed Monday afternoon.
Investigators said they do not know why the teens were driving toward one another.
All three teens were juniors at North Johnston High School. Creech was a varsity football player.
Grief counselors will be available at the school Tuesday to meet with students. Monday was a teacher's workday.
"It will be a difficult day no matter what happens tomorrow," North Johnston Principal Ross Renfrow said.
Renfrow said says the tight-knit school has never experienced this kind of loss before. and it will be a painful learning experience.
"These were two responsible kids, very mature for their age," he said. "We just are saddened by the loss."
