WILSON COUNTY, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter from Washington, N.C, was killed in a car accident in Wilson County on Saturday, state highway patrol troopers said.
Troopers said David Harrison Brown, 53, ran off the road on Highway 264 in Saratoga, N.C., and struck two trees.
Brown's car overturned, and he was pinned inside when medics arrived to the scene.
Brown was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he died, troopers said.
Troopers said they do not believe alcohol nor speed played a role in the accident.
Investigators are working to determine if Brown fell asleep or experienced a medical crisis that caused the accident.
No other people were in the car with Brown, who is a firefighter for the Beaufort community, troopers said.
