Authorities: Argument Led To Robeson Slaying

Posted Updated

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a deadly weekend shooting in Robeson County.

Early Sunday morning, authorities received a call about a body on the side of McGoogan Road. The body was identified as that of 33-year-old Craig Wesley Locklear, of Fayetteville.

Authorities discovered Locklear and his nephew, Charles Locklear, went to the house of a man who owed Craig some money. Mario Cardona, who lived at the home, told Locklear to leave and not come back.

Investigators said Craig Locklear left the home, but later he returned and got into an argument with Cardona. Cardona fired three or four shots at Locklear using a rifle, hitting him once in the head.

Cardona is charged with murder. He is being held at the Robeson County Jail without bond.
