Raleigh, N.C. — The Southeastern premiere of "Our Town," a new American opera, will be presented Feb. 9 and 11 in Raleigh.
Based on the Thornton Wilder play, the opera features the music of one of America’s foremost composers, Ned Rorem, and a libretto by American poet J.D. McClatchy.
The opera will be presented by the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute of the North Carolina School of the Arts. The institute was one of four main commissioners of the opera.
Local performances will be at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 and 2 p.m. Feb. 11 in Fletcher Opera Theater at Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. A performance for schoolchildren will be presented on Feb. 7.
