Cumberland Schools Change Graduation Dress Code for Female Students

Female students at Cumberland County schools will have a little leeway in how they dress for future graduations.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Female students at Cumberland County schools will have a little leeway for their graduation.

Last year, Douglas Byrd High School officials did not let Bobbie Spanbauer walk across the stage during graduation. She wanted to wear pants instead of a dress.

School leaders said Spanbauer waited too long to voice her concern.

Under the new dress code, male students must still wear dress pants.
