Raleigh Pedestrian Bridge Wins National Award

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — It's brand new, but Raleigh's pedestrian bridge is already attracting national attention.

The bridge, which crosses I-440 near Wade Avenue, was controversial because of its $3.8 million price.

But the U.S. Department of Transportation thinks the project is well worth it.

It presented the state with the 2005 Environmental Excellence Award in the "non-motorized transportation category."

The bridge beat out 238 other projects for the award.
