Some Parents Upset With Excerpts In Princeton H.S. Senior Book

PRINCETON, N.C. — A senior book flap is brewing in one Johnston County school.

A school group at Princeton High puts out the book every year. One parent who wished to remain anonymous said statements described in a story about a class reunion in 10 years are tasteless and offensive.

One excerpt describes a student dancing on a bar. Another excerpt refers to a student secretly having an affair.

"Everybody has this to remember, and this is what they're going to remember from this senior year," she said. "The last thing just before graduation, this comes out. It was in very poor taste."

In the past, an adviser was assigned to the students working on this project. This year, that didn't happen, so the students had free reign. School officials said they did not get wind of what was in the book until parents started complaining.

Johnston County school leaders said the book is no longer available for sale and all copies have been destroyed.

Some parents contacted WRAL to say they did not have a problem with the senior book. Princeton High School's graduation is set for next Friday.
