Knightdale Considers 10 P.M. Teen Curfew

Posted Updated

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — Teenagers in Knightdale may soon have to cut their evening activities short.

A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday about whether to institute a 10 p.m. curfew for teens. A current ordinance requires children under 16 years old to be home between midnight and 6 a.m.

The proposed change would move the curfew to the earlier time and extend it to youths under 18. Plus, parents may incur fines for their children who violate curfew.

It would also make it illegal for four or more teens under 18 to gather in a public space.

Officials believe a curfew is necessary to curb the recent trend of spray painting and gang activity in the area.

In a separate ordinance, town leaders may also decide Wednesday to make it illegal for businesses to sell spray paint to teens under 18, or for them to even posses it.
