RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County and Durham unveiled their proposed budgets on Monday.
Wake County schools wanted $30 million more because of massive growth. Instead, county manager David Cooke is recommending less than half of that increase.
The budget, which holds the line on taxes, will not become final until county commissioners vote in June.
The city of Durham lists public safety as the top priority in its budget. Fee increases are proposed for water and sewer and false alarms.
City Manager Patrick Baker did not recommend a tax increase, but said it would be necessary to expand services for police, city bus routes, and downtown development.
