CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A 6-year-old boy drowned in Jordan Lake Saturday afternoon while swimming with a group of friends, authorities said.
Oscar Perez was swimming at Parkers Creek Beach in Chatham County when he went under the water. Another child alerted the park ranger.
The park ranger performed CPR before EMS personnel arrived, said Greg Schneider, Jordan Lake superintendent.
Schneider said that Perez's parents were at the picnic area at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the state parks, Schneider said.
