Myer was recognized during the annual Optimist Club Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet. The Rob Apple Award is issued each year to one Garner police officer who, according to his peers, embodies the true spirit of law enforcement and community policing.
Following graduation from Sanderson High School in 1985, Myer attend Louisburg College, where he obtained his Associate of Arts degree in General Studies. He continued his education at East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.
Before coming to Garner in 1997, Myer worked for the East Carolina University Campus Police Department. Myer has served in a number of specialty positions during his seven years in Garner, including patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer, and his current position as school resource officer at Garner Senior High. He also serves as a member of the department's Crisis Negotiator Team.
"I'm successful in my job as school resource officer because of the support I receive from the officers working patrol," Myer said. "Having known and worked with Rob Apple, this award means a lot to me."
Robert Apple was a Garner police officer from 1995 to 1998. He left pursuing a lifelong dream to become a special agent with the FBI. Apple died suddenly in April 2000 of cancer. Apple was highly respected and admired by officers with the Garner Police Department.
