WILSON, N.C. — Standard Commercial said one of its Wilson tobacco plants is now closed.
The announcement affects nearly 500 workers at the Miller Street operation. Most are seasonal employees who would have returned to work in June.
Standard Commercial is merging with Virginia-based Dimon International. Company officials say many of the Standard employees will be kept on by the new company.
Workers are expected to find out if they still have a job in the next few weeks.
