A second suspect is on trial in connection with the shooting death of a retired Wake County school teacher.

Cameron Morris is charged with first-degree murder for the death of Shirley Newkirk. Investigators said Morris, along with Ezavia Allen and Marvin Johnson, were on a robbery spree when they encountered Newkirk outside her home on Dacian Road on April 28, 2005.

Allen, police said, shot Newkirk, who had been getting ready to meet a friend for their daily morning walk. Newkirk's husband heard the shooting and called 911. Newkirk died minutes later.

Allen was convicted of first-degree murder in Newkirk’s death and received a life sentence in November. Johnson has not yet been tried.

Who has money or jewelry on them when they go jogging? What could they have possibly robbed her for. Scary.

The many lives changed by one stupid action. We have lost our children to the point where they are mindless zombies. Hopefully, teenagers will take this as a lesson and Ms. Newkirk will not die in vain.

What a shame a great soul was taken from us!
