Hoke Sheriff Wants To Increase Deputies' Salaries

Posted Updated

HOKE COUNTY, N.C. — Hoke County's sheriff wants to pay deputies enough to attract new ones and keep good ones.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin told county leaders that deputies are leaving for higher paying jobs in nearby counties.

Peterkin is concerned the sheriff's office will suffer if salaries do not rise.

The sheriff also said the department ends up paying more in overtime pay to deputies covering the vacant positions.
