Laptop Containing Personal Information Stolen from Department of Revenue
State Attorney General Roy Cooper warns North Carolinians that their personal information could be at risk after a security breach involving a laptop computer.
The Department of Revenue computer was stolen last month, said a release from Cooper’s office. It contained the personal information of about 26,000 people and more than 7,000.
The department is sending out letters to warn people whose information might have been compromised. Those who receive the letter should notify the three credit bureaus, consider placing a freeze on their credit, and continue checking their credit frequently, Cooper said.
