Judge To Set New Trial Date After Court Equipment Fails

Posted Updated

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, N.C. — A judge will have to set a new trial date for a Weldon man charged with murder.

On Monday, the judge declared a mistrial in the case of Christopher Clanton, who prosecutors say killed a storeowner during a robbery in 2002.

The court reporter's equipment failed to pick up opening statements in the trial.

The state is seeking the death penalty.
