Cary Shopping Center To Add Road To Alleviate Traffic Woes

CARY, N.C. — Heavy traffic is causing one shopping center to consider plans to get traffic flowing again.
Crossroads Plaza plans to adjust existing traffic signals, install new ones and combine medians in an effort to ease the heavy traffic.
Hallmark manager Kim Brennan said she can see rows of cars waiting for the traffic signal from inside her store. She believes the long waits affects business.
"It does affect the attitude of the customer," Brennan said. "If affects whether they even want to come into the shopping center."
The proposed plan calls for a new road that would cut through the Fire Mountain Grill parking lot. Crossroads Plaza is buying the property, demolishing it and building two separate buildings for the road to run.
With this plan, traffic can move from Walnut Street to Crossroads Boulevard.
Construction could start as early as this summer.
Combined with the road repairs on nearby US 1, business owners said they know the problem will get worse before it gets better.
