RALEIGH, N.C. — Two state lawmakers want funding in the state budget to promote the proposed Roanoke Rapids entertainment district off of Interstate 95.

Rep. Lucy T. Allen, D-Halifax, and Rep. Michael H. Wray, D-Northampton, filed a proposal that would set aside $1 million for statewide promotion.

Plans for the area include up to five theaters with nationally recognized singers.

Work on the project could begin in June.
