Fire Causes $10,000 In Damages At UNC Dorm, Officials Say

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Flames broke out in a room on the second floor of a UNC-Chapel Hill dormitory Friday morning.

The Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at Eringhaus dorm, located at 411 Manning Dr., shortly before 11 a.m.

On arrival, crews found smoke coming from the door of room 229.

The dorm suite was occupied by one resident at the time, who was able to exit the suite without any problems.

Damage to the suite is estimated at $10,000.

The cause is still being investigated.
